I have a dirt bike trailer, that I want to convert to a flat bed.
I know the first step it to cut off the BS rails that are on there, but I wanted a wood platform.
Most flat trailers I see have wood recessed into the thing (instead of on top of the rails)

Ideas on how I could do this?

I want it to be a flat bed to haul stuff around, and I have 2- 8' boats that will fit perfectly onto it.

Ideas?

Re: Trailer conversion help

Instead of trying to get wood boards inside the existing frame, why not fashion a rectangle frame on top of the existing frame with angle-iron & lay 2x10 or 2x8 planking into that frame? You could run stringers across under the planks to bolt them down to, but since they're sitting in open angle-iron, they'd be easy to remove for replacement or servicing the trailer underneath when required. Only downside is that you'd gain an extra 1.5" to the top of the trailer bed. You'll probably want to frame something over the 'V' shaped part at the head of the trailer anyhow, though.

I would torch off the rails that the tires ride in, cut them to length and use them as crossmembers. Then deck with whatever. I prefer 5 quarter treated decking. It seems to hold up better than treated plywood, and if a section gets damaged you can replace a couple of boards.
