Hi guys need you input on my leaf spring shackles....1987 Load Rite T22 Do the ends of the leafs with the hook part supposed to be so near the front or did my axle assembly move? Looked odd to me but I am now way an expert on trailers.

Here are a few pics of what I am looking at.....

Thanks

It does not look right. Leaf springs come in all different lengths, could someone have put the wrong size on?

From what I know from the original owner the trailer is all stock....nothing has been changed. Just looks odd that the hook end of the spring is so close to the plastic sleeve/pin on the shackle....

Well to me it dose look a bit closer to the end of the spring pocket than I would like but it also depends on if you can adjust the centering trunnion a bit as well as the back axle and hanger. You have to have room for movement and from what I can see of the wear pattern it looks like its doing OK. It looks like a duel axle and that is on the front axle, if you have a set of holes to move it it, personally I would. It looks like the front axle and you may be able to move the front axle a bit foward, a lot less work. Cant really tell if you have adjustment holes.

That is perfectly normal. Remember, the equalizer (also called a walking beam) must pivot up and down as the front wheel steps over a bump or drops into a hole, followed by the rear wheel. Since the spring length doesn't change the pin must move in the hook. Spring shakles and center pivots are not typically adjustable. The spring cannot get out of position. Those pins by the way have a nylon bushing over them and yours look like they need replacing.

Thank you for the reply guys! I will order some new nylon bushings and take care of that. I did finally get in touch with Load Rite today and they did explain the hook and why it's in that position just as you stated above Silvertip. Thanks again for taking the time to educate me ;)
