wow,i think i woul want a roller on that center cross member, and carpet or some thing on the board sticking out the back.
it looks like the boat is just setting on the edge of them.mite be ok to move around in the yard real slow but I would not take it on the road like that

the bow is OK, but the side bunks, the top should be cut on an angle to match the hull. yes, it can damage the hull.

I agree with tashasdaddy. My new Majac Tilt trailer does not have a roller on it either but a very thick piece of plastic with 2 "V" guides that put the hull in the proper position. As long as the front of the bow is properly supported/padded, this should be good to go.

The bunks do need some work. Depending on the tongue weight, the bunks could be trimmed at the rear if needed, or the boat could be placed back on them further and the bow stop can be adjusted. The bunks should be cut to match the hull and recarpeted. A good dealer can do this for you for a reasonable cost. They set up trailers properly every day.

If this is the only thing wrong and it can be fixed, you should be gold. Get that Sea Monkey checked out by someone who is in the know. A trailer adjustment is easy. A boat with many problems is not.

My trailer is like Tasha's. 4X8 bunks and a V bow guide. Those aluminum trailes this is fairly standard. I think they are very good trailers and they load, unload easy...

I do agree that the top of the bunks should be cut at an angle to match the hull. Mine are. Also, that bunk needs new carpet on it. I have to replace carpet on mine. Damn Dogs...

The boat does not fit the trailer very well and in not even very well adjusted to the boat.

If you plan on towing this boat very far, adjust the winch stand so the roller is just above the eye of the boat. You should not be able to get a finger between the roller and the eye. I would also check the tongue weight and move the boat back on the trailer if possible. The bunks should extend only one of two inches beyond the hull. After these adjustments are made, I would tow the boat/trailer to see if it is acceptable before you buy it.

Check the hull for stress cracks, if you do not see any, than the trailer has not damaged the boat.

I've often seen trailers set up like this, but wouldn't it be better if the bunks were mounted with hardware that allows the hull to rest on the wide, flat dimension of the bunk? This would spread the load over a much larger surface, and be easier on both the hull and the bunk covering. Nice looking boat!

The strength in lumber is against the grain (on edge) not laying flat. The bunks would provide very little support if arrange flat. What I see is the hull is very close to the fenders indicating that the bunks should be raised about an inch or so to provide more clearance. But generally I agree that while this is a good trailer, it does not seem to be adjusted very well for the boat.

The bunk mounts maybe adjustable, you may be able to raise/ lower the verticle piece, as well the bunks themself should pivot.
Check it out, make your measurements you need for adjustment before you loosen anything off.:)

Good point, the greater strength is on edge. But if supported by hardware in several places along the length of the bunk, I'm guessing a "flat" bunk is up to the job, and will provide enough support. Maybe this is a regional preference. This morning at the Alameda (CA) launch ramp, 7 of the 8 trailers in the lot had flat bunks. Mine (EZ loader for a 14' aluminum boat) was the only trailer with the bunks on edge, like the OP's photos. Even the big Navy trailer (empty) being used for driver training had flat bunks. 2 young women and 2 young men taking turns backing a huge trailer down the ramp. They all did quite well!

my 21' 2000lb sailboat had bunks in which the boards were flat and they boards actually become arc'd to adjust to the shape of the boat. it looked as if they were warped but when we replaced the rotted old wood we noticed that brackets were at different heights giving the bunks the arc shape

That trailer is definitely not the original for that boat and will need the bunks tweaked or better yet replaced and repositioned. The bonus is it's aluminium and looks like it once had or was ready to have a swing-away tongue installed. Get the dealer to knock a couple hundred off for the trailer rehab and you got a sweet deal if you can do the work yourself.

To me it looks like the boat is too wide for the trailer. Shouldn't the trailer be wide enough so the hull sits between the fenders as opposed sitting over the fenders? The reason I ask is, that's the way my 24' sits, between the fenders.

Depends on the beam. Once you start getting close to 8' beam, the hull has to sit over the fenders or else the wheelbase will be to wide to be legal without a wide load permit.

To the OP, that trailer is fine. Might need some adjustments, but I bet that trailer is the orginal setup. Check out these trailer sites and you will see what I mean...

Appreciate the info...

Trailers have a maximum width of 8 ft-6in. The boat looks like it has an 8 ft beam. No way you can widen the trailer so the boat sits between the wheels. Besides, the trailer may have been made before the 8.5 ft width went into effect so it is probably 8 ft wide as well.

Looks to me like the trailer is OK, but is there anything supporting the keel? I have a much, much smaller boat but it has 3 keel rollers that basically hold most of the weight. There are bunk boards at the rear similar to yours to stablize the boat.

Why not add more middle support and have them bunks just balance the beast?

Milemaker13, I could totally be wrong here.....but my understanding is that in a set-up like yours, the bunk boards are supposed to hold/support the majority of the boat's weight. The keel rollers are mainly for guiding on and centering. This would make sense to me as you'd be spreading the weight out over a much larger area. Do you really want all the bumps going down the road to be transferred to 3 small spots on your keel?

The days of keel rollers as primary support for a boat are over I think. That trailer, like mine, only supports the lkeel at one point at the bow. The rest of the weight is supported by the Bunk Beams. Spreads the weight well, centers well, easy to load/unload. That is the way these trailers were designed...

Agree, Trailer looks to narrow. I would want flat bunks, at least 4.
