Trailer jack size

My trailer jack bit the dust last season. It seems I have a non-standard or out-dated trailer. I need a 2" OD A-frame jack. All the local shops seem to only carry bigger jacks (I believe 2.25"). Online shops don't ever seem to post this dimension, so I have no way of knowing if it is the right size (yes you too Iboats ).

Is 2" OD an odd or outdated size? Where can I find one? Its a 20 year old trailer for an 18' boat. Tounge normally wieghs about 100#

Thanks

Re: Trailer jack size

If it is the style I think your talking about where the jack goes through the frame of the trailer and is bolted down. If you can't find the exact fit then you may need to get a plate to compensate for the difference in bolt pattern and spacing. With that little weight on the jack you should get away with a fairly thin piece of metal, 1/4 might even be overkill but should do it. Paint/galvanize it up so it doesn't rust.

EDIT: Sorry I misunderstood. Got the dimensions backwards. Well, if you can't find an exact fit you can get a side jack that u-bolts to the frame. Short of drilling out the 2" hole to fit, may not be an easy fix.

Yes it is the bolted down through trailer style. My issue is finding a jack that will fit into the 2" hole in the trailer. Every jack I have found fits my bolt pattern but is too fat to fit into the 2" hole. There is alot of steel there to remove so I'd rather find a jack that fits than to drill out the hole.

Thanks again.

I think your best bet is a side u-bolt style jack. Just take the jack off you currently have and bolt a new one near the front on the frame. The swivel up jacks are great. I have one and save lots of cranking and just swivels right up out of the way. You can even get one with a permanent dolly wheel.

I think best thing to do is to enlarge the hole. I had to do the same thing on a trailer. Find someone with a plasma cutter that can cut the hole for you. It doesn't have to be pretty since the jack mount plate covers the hole.
