trailer jacks - which easier to wind?

Is there some sort of gear reduction difference between a 1000lb jack and a 1500lb jack which would make the 1500lb jack easier to wind given the same amount of tongue weight?

Presently I use the least expensive walmart 1000lb jack (no grease fittings) in saltwater. Before long it begins to rust and becomes more difficult to wind up.

I have a shoulder problem which is aggravated by the simple wind up. Do I need a better quality jack, more powerful jack, or is a electric power jack my only solution (they are so slow and wires need to be stowed after use - all time consuming - but would solve my shoulder problem.)

Thanks

SImply transferring the location of the jack forward or backward can change the amount of weight being supported by it, granted it may not be a large amount.

Buy a jack that you can grease. Keep her greased and problem solved!

You have tried the junk jacks, now go get a good drop leg jack. It will reduce the distance you have to move the "leg", improves mechanical advantage, and allows for a higher stand during storage. I only launch in saltwater and have been using the same jack for 4 years with no rust.

certain brands may have a differnt ratio to your cheaper version wont know untill you accually crank on it i would defenetly go with a jack that you pull a lever and then push the jack from paralell to the trailer to down then you only crank enough to get the hitch to pop off the ball 2 or 3 inches maybe? also almost all jacks can be greased pop off the cheap sheet metal cover on teh top you will see 2 gears then add grease. if those gears are rusty pop out the plastic or metal pin that holds it on the shaft and wire wheel it. grease replace or replace and grease choose how dirty you wont to get.
