Trailer Length vs Boat Length

Hello all,

I've got a 15' Starcraft American on the old keel roller/wooden bunk style trailer - with a bad motor. I've got a line on a 18' well used tri-hull boat/motor/trailer package, mainly for the motor.

Is there a rule of thumb regarding boat length vs. trailer length. I think the 18' has a newer style trailer that I'd like to have. Bascially, is it possible to use trailer the 18' is on with my 15' boat?

Thanks,

it depends on how the trailer is built, i have a 14' boat on a trailer that had a 19' boat on it. really depends on if you can mount the winch stand and bow stop.

tongue weight needs to be 5% to 7% of total - you might have to move the axle to get it where it needs to be. If the bunk spacing works out, it could be a good thing for ya - won't have to back down as far on the ramp.
