My brother in law has a Toyota Tundra with a lighting issue. Under the bumper, there is a black box. 5 wires coming in and four wires going out to the trailer connector. One of the 5 wires (black) is corroded away and the lights will not come on the trailer. Can you just take the box off and wire the lights together? What does this box do? The trailer has no brakes so we just need the four wires. Any help you can offer?

Re: Trailer light wiring (conv box?)

The "Black Box" normally has five wires leading in and four out. It converts the foriegn three bulb lighting array to the American two bulb arrangement (foriegn has separate brake and turn bulbs: American uses the same bulb/filament).
Replacement converters can be obtained at all trailer outlets, most sporting goods and even WalMart.
