Trailer Lights Intermittent

My tailer lights are acting wierd. First all the lights work, but the left turn signal and brake does not flash. It does turn on with the head lights but nothing else.

Only thing I've checked so far is close to the plug. One white wire is not connected to anything.

Any ideas where to start, I'm going to look at it better today in the sunlight, I noticed it last night and could not see to well.

Thanks,
Kyle

Thats the ground wire. If its not hooked up then all you have to ground the system is the hitch...Not good.
If its in the trailer side then attach it to the trailer tounge.
If its on the truck side then attach it the frame or something metal.
Make sure the attaching pionts are clean and free of paint. then paint of it.

Most vehicles these days have the brakes and turn signals together. So if you missing them on one side and the tail lights work good then it could be a bad bulb.

Try connecting the white wire w/ a crimp style lug to a clean(bare metal) part of the tlr frame w/ a good sheet metal screw.

Wiggle your truck to trailer connection. May be some corrosion there.

Agreed, that white wire is your ground for the trailer. Needs to be attached to the trailer via a crimp on eylet connector and a sheet metal screw to continue the ground connection from the lights, through the trailer frame and into the wiring harness to properly ground with the tow vehile.

Never rely on the hitch connection as the ground. Lights should work 100% when plugged in regardless of the hitch being connected or not. That indicates a proper ground.

Re: Trailer Lights Intermittent

All,

Thanks for all the replies...problem solved.

Two things:
- Connected white wire to trl frame
- Sprayed some WD40 on the ground wire connects by the tail lights

All lights work great.
