Trailer measurement questions?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a 24? boat and currently it's sitting on a home made triple axle trailer. It's in real bad shape and I am looking to replace it not repair it.

I am going to look at a galvanized roller tandem axle trailer but the owner does not know how long of a boat was on it originally or how long of boat will fit on it.

How does a person measure up another trailer to know it will fit my boat or not?

Any ideas or thoughts?

measure from bowstop to the last roller
This should match the length from the bow eye to the transom on your boat.

And then you will have to eyeball it and decide if the winch/bow roller stand can be moved and adjusted to suit your boat.
Not a whole lot though, maybe a foot or 1.5 feet.
Also check out the axles, springs, rims and tires to make sure they are rated to carry the load.

And pay particular attention to the tires. Give them a good going over looking especially for sidewall damage and weather cracking, both of which can put you on the side of the road especially if you like to drive fast.

Last, insure that you keep the air in them at the recommended max pressure. 10-4 on the rated load and a 2:1 derating wouldn't hurt. Also don't forget to add the weight of the trailer and contents, but you can subtract the tongue weight.

Good luck,l
