Trailer Re-wiring problems

I just purchased a wiring harness for my boat trailer. I have it ground, attached to my truck properly. The green and brown wiring to the right side, and the yellow and brown to the left side. All I can get out of the trailer are blinkers, left and right, as well as my hazard lights. For some reason, I cannot get brake lights or running lights to go on.

Anyone have any ideas of what it could be? I just purchased new bulbs as well. I have no clue, and am tirelessly frustrated. Thanks!

The brake lights are run off of the same two wires as the turn signals. The brown wire turns on the tailights. Are you sure the vehicle end of the harness is working properly?

gdean7
Did you test the trailer and truck seperately? If you have a battery charger , test each trailer circuit with power source.
Test truck outlet, with a 12 volt tester (looks like a pen), cheap at any discount store.
Good luck, be happy, spring is almost here. Batavier

Yea, I did use the little light pen checker thing you're talking about. Only 1 lit up though, and I assume that's what is supposed to happen(i've got the round 6 coming out of the truck, and an adapter that goes into the flat 4) And as said before, the turn signals and hazard lights work, but not the brake or tail lights. Unknownly, Garrett.

I have no experience with this but have read it on this forum. Does your vehicle have separate turn signals and brake lights, by this I mean orange signals, red brake lights on the back of your vehicle? If so you may need some type of special wiring for your tow vehicle. I assume this is the same vehicle you were using before re wiring the trailer. If so this won't apply to you.

HTH's

DougV>

Like other posters implied, if your tow vehicle has a separate bulb for brake lights, you need to add an adapter. Your trailer uses one filament of a two-filament bulb for brake, turn, and hazard. Some newer vehicles use one bulb for hazard/turn, and a separate bulb for stop. If your tow vehicle came with a four-wire connector you probably don't that configuration. If you added it, you probably need the adapter.

What adapter am I going to be looking for? And where will it fit? Is it going to go on to my truck, where all the wires are? Or will it go on my 6 wire set, or the flat 4 wire set? Thanks!

It goes on the tow vehicle to convert the 5/6 wire harness to a flat four set. Instructions will come with the adapter (actually its called a converter).
