Hey guys, I bought a 14ft tinny with a trailer (not galvanized I think) which had only been used in freshwater by the previous owner. The trailer had no rust on it at all, I have since used it around 7 times in saltwater since I've had it and always hosed it down afterwards or the next day.
it's winter here in Aus and it's been sitting in the garage for 3 months and now it's unbelievably rusted!! All through the inside of the framing on the springs/axles/everything. I've smashed it with a mallet and it still seems solid but around 30% of the framing has rusted on the inside and I can break it off in flakes, I smash the framing all around the trailer and I can hear all the rust falling off/moving around it's everywhere. It seems to have just stopped at around 30% through and I can smash it everywhere with a mallet and it's still sturdy, the load it takes is only 350kg.
Should I repair it? Can I repair it?? Even if I do how do I stop it from rusting further? What would you do?
Cheers.
