Is there a way to research the specs. of a particular boat trailer. Made by Sears Roebuck Co. Model-371-616490 Serial-TY 4 08TG 146 . The year is around 1968. It carries a 15 foot starcraft aluminum boat. What might the weight of the trailer be?

If there is no GVWR label on the trailer the only way to know is to weigh it.

Just haul the empty trailer over to your local truck stop, sand yard, scrapyard, whatever is near and get it on the scale for an accurate weight. Probably won't cost much more than a few bucks. My guess would be around 150 lbs.

The only problem with your suggestion is that there is boat and motor on the trailer, can't just drop the boat off in the yard. I want exact weights not a guess.

Actually, you can... and a 15-footer won't even be that hard. Search the site for recommendations/discussion.
You could always launch it in the water, too.

But for "exact" weight, scales trump research.

Re: Trailer specs?

The boat is a Star Trek-V , 15 foot center console starcraft aluminum hull with marine plywood decking, powerd by a yamaha F40 four stoke 06. I intend to have the whole package weighed at the scrapyard but without knowing the exaact weight of the trailer I can not determine the weight of the boat and motor. People are assuming the weight oif the trai

Removing the boat in the yard is not that hard if there is not water nearby. You could even elevate it with the transom and bow eyes (carefully and temporarily) and then weigh the tongue and both rear corners with a bathroom scale. Add the numbers- there you go!

Re: Trailer specs?

The boat is shown to weigh 460lbs from the factory, 1971 V2 literature. The motor weighs 202lbs, 2005 F40. Gas, gear, toys and you are over 750lbs. Your other thread mentioned that if I remember.

I'd start looking for a new trailer.

I impressed with your research and info. Where do you find this information. I assume the boat is a 1971, what does V2 literature mean? Before I think about discarding a perfectly good trailer can't we upgrade our springs and tires. The trailer is rated to handle 750lbs., boat motor and alt. gear; so you are right I am at the limit. If I don't exceed that weight wouldn't I be OK.

Re: Trailer specs?

The V2 is version two of the 1971 literature that's posted in the Starcraft section. Near the bottom of the main page - manufactures - S - Starcraft - 2nd post is a sticky for brochures.

Or here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=34983

You can upgrade springs and tires but the frame may not be up to the additional weight.

And Thanks, there is tons of great info here at iboats.

Re: Trailer specs?

64, I was shocked to see that actual boat in it's original form. The console had fallen apart and floor boards were rotten so I didn't have alot to go on when I rebuilt it. Turns out I was close to the original design. Now I will know exactly how much I have over loaded the boat and trailer by. Thanks again for your help. Great link!
