Hi all, a question, my trailer has worn out 13 in tires and wheels. I want to go bigger and would like to know what truck wheels will fit, I've heard ford ranger or jeep with a 5x4.5 in bolt circle will fit. Any suggestions? Its for a 22' Larson.

Re: Trailer Tires and Rims

I've heard auto/truck rims don't work well on trailers because of the wheel offset and load rating, tires stick out too far and the wheel isn't rated high enough for the tire.

When I upgraded wheels/tires I bought them from this place as the local shops were $200 higher.

I've heard that too but my boat / trailer weighs less than the GVWR of a Small truck. I've also heard about the offset, just thought Id ask! I have a place here locally that sells a set of 14's mounted and ballanced for around 350$ I just wanted some better looking rims.

Most trailer rims are built with a 50/50 offset, meaning that the hub flange sits in the middle of the rim. With that in mind, you can use truck wheels but have to take into consideration the width, back spacing and of course, center hole diameter, (which is often larger on a trailer than on most small trucks).

No more Marathons at all, or no more non-China made Marathons? I can see them ending Marathon's since they ruined the name when they started making them over in China a few years ago. Never had problems with the New Zeland ones...

The place I posted still sells them. I herd there were some people who had problems with them since they started making them in China (no personal experience) so I'm not buying them anymore. Not worth buying premium tires if the quality is questionable.

If you have a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern on your trailer, then any 5 on 4.5 wheel will fit. while I would check the weight, I do not think if would be to much to worry about. But, do check the offset. Might need to add a small spacer of the offset is more to the outside of the wheel.

The wheels look just like the ones in the above picture, the offset looks real close to zero too. Its got 13" tires now, theres plenty of room in there! I'm pretty sure any wheel is going to have a weight limit far more than whats on there now (Chrome Mods).

Thanks for that chart 4x2, it shows the country of origin and not all of them are being made in China. I wonder why they started sourcing some of the 13's from China, doesn't bode well for the "Marathon" name. Luckily, the 14's I need is still made in US/Canada/New Zealand, I'll buy those.
