Hey fellas, I got a new trailer for my starcraft and when we put it on the new trailer I noticed my wife was cranking the wrong way. So I unwound the strap and rewound it so when cranking the boat up your cranking forward and not backwards. But now the locking lever is not right. What am I doing wrong? Thanks brainfart in mn

Pull the strap back out. Wind it up the way the winch works.

Forget Forward / backward thinking.

only winches Ive ever had cranked forward to pull, reverse to release strap... call manf.. or.....reverse it and use it the way it works,, if it's intended purpose works (evern backwards) as long as it locks, what's the problem?

The reason I want to change it is it pulls up the trailer different. The eyehole is lining up with the front roller. I can't adjust the roller either.

you can always buy another one, they are pretty much plug and play.....ie- bolt on and off...

The only difference is the strap either winds up over the top of the winch drum or it winds up on the bottom. This isn't rocket science. The winch handle on some winches can be placed on either the port or starboard side of the winch as well. I don't follow the issue with the "eye hole" alignment as you call it. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

On my winch you flip a lever to lock in one position then center for neutral then flip in opposite direction to lock drum when rotating opposite direction. Both of my past winches have worked that way. On an older model I had some years back we were able to remove the locking lever and flip it over in order to make it lock in the opposite direction. Can't tell how yours works but those are my suggestions.

I simply don't see a problem! You have your other half winching the boat and if she is not complaining----don't fix it if it aint broke!

Agree with Airshot. Most winches will lock in either direction.

If you really need it to crank the other way, turn the winch upside down. Or,maybe it is upside down now.

Uhhh, Iguess you can crank it the 'right' way, or the way it works best. How is 'your' way working out ...

You never stated which way you consider forward! Clockwise? CounterClockwise?
Assuming the strap comes off the bottom of the winch, and the handle is on the Port Side; CounterClockwise would be the norm.

The strap needs to run Under, Not Over, the Bow Stop (Front Roller?) on the way to the Bow Eye (Eye Hole?)
The choice of coming off the top or bottom of the winch depends on which way does not rub on anything.

What Make/Model of winch do you have?

uhhhh... a LOT of 'to do' here BUT you can likely unbolt the winch and rotate 180 degrees so the crank is on the other side of the trailer.... if that doesn't solve your dilemma then as mentioned above we WILL need to see pics.
