I have been trying to successfully find a good trailerable cover. Picked up a Road Warrior cover from Boaters World, ( $299) took one hour trip and the rear straps had come unstitched. They gave me a refund but I was sure that this cover made by Westland Industries was good. Has anyone found a reliable cover?

Re: Trailerable Cover

Howdy, Baja.

I have had zero luck towing with any cover that is not tailored for the boat. If something can flap or rub, forget it.

I bought fitted Roadrunner covers for our 2 Montauks from Cabelas and have towed them about 6000 miles. I have had to replace the straps that wrap under the boat with straps that fasten to the trailer frame. Under the boat, they wear through in about 1000 miles. I always use extra strength elastics with mar-proof hooks to tighten everything up.

I now have a very expensive tailored cover by Mills Canvas on one Montauk, but have not towed with it in place yet. The fit is perfect, so I expect no trouble.

Good luck. :)

Re: Trailerable Cover

Last year I splashed out and had an upholsterer friend make a purpose built cover for my boat for towing & storage. He charged me NZ $200 (about US $100) for the best cover I've ever seen. It's a thicker material than usual and I think that's given it extra strength. I can't ask him what it is as it was off-cuts from a $50m big boat and he'd get a bit of stick if they knew what he'd done with part of $100,000 of cover material.
I would strongly suggest a made one rather than shop bought. My old shop one ripped soon after I got it!
Ross
