I just bought our first boat - 225 LPX. I have a Durango with the 5.7L hem- not concerned with power but with weight and braking (trailer has surge brakes - one axle) - any advice?

Re: Trailering

Weigh the boat at a scale with gas and gear in it, just like your headed to the water.
Go to the Dodge dealer and give them your vin number, ask them the towing capacity of your rig. Then compare the numbers.
Id have to think your close to the max.
The brakes on the trailer are fine unless they dont work, or dont work well. FIX THEM. :)
Remember that getting going is not the concern, getting around the corner and stopped is.

2011 Durango ?Up to 7,400 lb towing capacity [1] with 5.7L HEMI ? V8

Crownline 225 LPX Dry Weight 3800 lbs.
58 Gal. fuel 58x6.2 ? 360 lbs.
gear 600 lbs.
trailer 800 lbs.
very ruff total 5560 lbs.

As bifflefan posted. go to the scales. and check with the dealer. You could have a lower rated hitch. Check your window sticker if you still have it.
A good rule of thumb is 80% of max. 80% of 7400= 5920 so your looking good all the way around if it all checks out. Lots of other numbers to check out GVW, GCVW. These and more are on your spec. plate in the door frame.
Four big fishermen and all the gear for a weekend at the cabin and you could be way over for the Durango. So keep reading and learn all the limits.
Put a tool box together for the trailer and another one for the boat. You'll need them.
Crownline is one of my favorite boat makers and the Durango should handle it. :D
