I have a 1981 Johnson 115. The tilt n trim motor is leaking fluid, it looks like the previous owner put trans fluid in it. I'm pulling the unit out and putting a new seal. What is the best way to remove the trans fluid from the unit(with out complete tear down)? If not all of the fluid is removed will regular fluid work with the trans fluid?

Thanks for the help ya'll :)

I use transmission fluid in mine, it doesn't leak.

My Sealoc manual says OMC fluid or Dexron II trans fluid. It's very specific on what kind of ATF. The Dexron II is in Bold letters.

I don't think it leaks cause the transmission fluid.

I got the unit pulled out and the pump motor off and there is no o-ring seal?
thanks for the help.

Use Dexton II or regular BRP tilt/trim fluid. Stay away from ATF type "F". It will raise hell with your seals.
