Transducer causing water to come in at high speed

I just installed the transducer on my 14 ft aluminum boat about two week ago. I travel between half and full throttle most of the time. But the transducer is causing water to come over the transom into the boat. Not good. In 30 min I had two gallons sloshing around in the bottom of the boat. I have the transducer in the same position as last year but it's now causing water to come over the transom. The only thing different is the motor. I upgraded from a 9.9 force to a 18hp Nissan. Anyone experience a similar problem and know how to fix it?

Poorly-designed Humminbird transducer + extra weight on transom + higher speed = more water kicked up

Humminbird has a rubber insert that goes between the transducer body and the base of the mount that may do the trick for you.

Adjust the transduce up a little higher, until you lose high speed performance. If you don't care about high speed, adjust it up all the way.

I had the same problem last year with a Humminbird transom-mounted transducer. I emailed them asking about the plug, and they sent me an entirely new mount, for free! I guess my mount was an old style that didn't take the rubber plug. Problem solved! No more spray into the boat.

As a stopgap measure, I've heard of folks wrapping electrical tape around the fork that attaches the 'ducer to the mount.

Good luck!

I had to order a whole new mount for it cause I hit a submerged log after taking the boat out of the water last fall. The mount I bought came with a small rubber plug but I didn't know what it was for so I put it in my parts bin. So I'll put that plug in and see if it works. The transducer does not work at high speeds. It's a 1/2 below the bottom and still reads 600ft at high speeds. Thanks all!!! I still need any advise about the backlight issue.

Better 'splain that one. As for the spray, I've had best results when the leading edge is maybe 1/4" above the plane of the bottom, with the trailing edge maybe 1/4-1/2" below. If the whole thing (or even a good part) is 1/2", that may be why you get the increased spray and lack of bottom lock (turbulance over the face) ...;)
