Is there any way to test to see if transducer is working other than connecting to different depthfinder? I have a Lowrance X28 and when I turn it on, it reads 5-600 feet even when only in 20-30 feet of water.

Re: Transducer Check

Transducer is thru hull design. Unit is in Auto Mode. Just purchased boat used last summer so I don't know if unit worked before or not. All functions seem to work other than it gives bezerk readings.

Re: Transducer Check

You can put your hand under it or your foot and you should be able to feel it pluse. Since it is a thru hull is it shimmed right to be pointing straight down or is it pointing off to one side.

I would start by going thru the manual and setting to factory defaults. Then move out to 30 or 50 feet of water. If it is drawing a bottom on your LCD then you are close. I turn up until upper 1/3 part of screen starts to black out.

Re: Transducer Check

Time to call Lowrance. They give free trouble shooting advice and part# for the repair.

Re: Transducer Check

Thanks for your help. I will check suggestions as soon as I can get wet. If no luck I will take RP's advice. This is a OEM installation on 99 Stratos and it may have reached it's expiration date.
