I am installing a new Helix 7 sonar/gps combo at the console with a transom mount transducer. I would like to take the HB 596HD DI unit and mount it on the bow connected to the Trolling motor. I plan on using a hose clamp type mount. My question is how do you route the transducer cable with a PowerDrive trolling motor. The shaft needs to slide in/out when raising/lowering the motor, so I wont be able to wire tie up the shaft. Has anyone done this and have pics??

Yes it can be done and yes I have done it -- several times. 1) Mount the transducer to the motor housing using the appropriate mount. 2) Use a zip tie to secure the transducer cable at the motor. I drill a hole in the web where the shaft meets the motor. The zip tie can then secure the transducer at that point. You want the cable secure so it doesn't get snagged by the prop. 3) Deploy the motor and route the transducer cable up the shaft and secure it just above the shaft depth adjustment collar. You cannot secure the cable to the shaft below this point because the motor must slide in and out of the pivot on the mount. 4) Route the transducer cable through the coiled cord and have it exit from the cord at the motor mount. It can then be routed to the locator. 5) You need to be ever watchful to ensure the cable does not get pinched in the mount during deployment or stowing.

Thanks Silvertip. I saw an old thread that you had posted in but the pics were not showing up. I have an older style powerdrive with the D-loop release handle. I think I will route the cable through there as well.
