Have looked at other posts about this and just cant seem to get a gripe on the subject. Do own common sense but its went right out the window..Am sorry seems am repeating something also..A transom mounted transducer..Do you still cut-drill holes in your boat? Why dont know having a real hard time with this..I see holes cut inside, outside of your boat. I see once cut out inside there may be foam...etc..could cause a problem..Seen one installed cutting out the bottom on the outside of the boat..looks like his method got in the way of side bars on his trailer and ripped it out.

Am sure its here some where. Is there in very simple english a post about this mess? Just what is realy involved in a transducer mounted on a transom? Is this one of the like humminbird fish finders with a antena on the mount you screw into the boat? Have no clue why I cant figure this out..Could be ebay and youtube..I just dont know..Hope someone can fix my brain and add some common sense..This subject have none at all. All electronics on boat are 1997..Trying to update all of them..Tearing her up to do so is a nightmare..Looks also to be hiring a pro is something no way could afford.Add a link to her. Ifs major surgury dont think could cut her up..Spelling is bad not concered with it. Maybe best leave her be. Have a hard time putting her under a blade.

:grumpy::facepalm::confused:

See in pictures..At wheel is the 97 tracker wide eye c..#5040163..At troll is a humminbird 200dx..#5802057..Both oem from 1997..I thought could buy upgraded for both that can just plug in to existing mounts and wiring..As with everything best can see is 4get that..Thats what has lead me to this post. Cant plug-n-play..Have to cut up your boat..Is my thinking screwed?

It's a little hard to follow exactly what you're asking, but I'll give it a shot.

The usual way to mount a transducer to the transom is to drill holes. If the boat if fiberglass, there will usually be a wood core in the transom. Therefore, proper sealing of the mounting holes is essential to keep that wood dry and rot-free. You can also glue a piece of StarBoard or similar impervious product to the transom and mount the transducer to it.

No cutting of the boat needed for either operation.

That's a nice looking boat and almost like the one I had a few years ago, but mine was a 1995 170TF which had a transducer mounted somewhere inside on the hull somewhere, I never did find it, but ended up installing a new GPS Depthfinder anyways, what I did follow the instructions for the new unit and ended up drilling I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 holes just smaller then the screws and be sure to use a sealer on all screws and when you drill you don't have to drill very deep into the transom, it is hard to see mine in this picture but if you can zoom in some on the picture you can just about see how I have it mounted here and I never had any problems with it..You might have to download the pic to be able to zoom in on it..It is not a good pic of the transducer.

Shes nice..Can see how ya installed it. Thats my problem to.
Everything on it is factory. I guess theres 2 on mine and have
no clue where they are, like ya said "down in the hull some where".
Think whats got me is dont want wires all over the boat if makes
sense. My mind says ok, which do ya want. Maybe hire some-one
knows how to hide them inside the boat, "cut it up I guess".
Or diy and buy little hangers to drill and hang wires inside ya know?

Update finder at troll, update finder at wheel and add a gps, no wiring
on it works with new stuff. Shes a 97 but in mint condition. Goes back
to putting a sound system in ur living room maybe. All them dang ugly
wires are every where. Think should save up money and hire some-one
knows how to do. I did it would look like a wire house.

Re: Transducer mounted on transom? I dont get it.

Did you look at the troller itself. Most transducers are mounted right on the bottom of the trolling motor since that's what you want to look at on the bow mounted locator. If the troller is a Minnkota, the transducer may be built right into the motor housing. Otherwise the transducer should be mounted on a bracket attached to the motor housing. A separate cable runs up the shaft to the locator head unit.
Transducers for a locator mounted at the helm will be attached to a bracket at the transom and yes, you drill a couple of small holes for stainless wood screws. Seal them and go boating. The other option is to epoxy the locator inside the hull in the bilge. If you have a foam core boat you cannot do this. Just because you have a Humminbird locator from year xx does not mean a transducer from that era works with a locator from this years build. Just like wheels from a 1990 car may not fit on the current model of the same car.

I have looked at the troll and never noticed that little plastic thing. Your right it is right on the bottom of it. I guess all the wiring is, no I can see now all wiring goes through the troll. Went back to pictures when ya said that. Never noticed what was at the bottom of the
motor. Got ya.Would be nice if could use existing. I know can thanks to you guys.My skills on a boat, none.Back woods ponds a creek ur a river i know. Never had a chance to own anything worth a crap. Shes a 2013 to me. Right up there with the enterprise. (capn Kirk).
Thanks Much!! Understand.....

When I installed mine none of the wires showed except where the steering cable came out of the back of the boat and I ran the wire down the back of the transom to the transducer where it was mounted, I started feeding the transducer wire in where the steering cable comes out the back of the boat and fed the cable up in the panel that all the wires are fed into up to the back of the helm and out to the GPS/depthfinder was mounted and tapped the power into one of the always on hot wires inside the helm along with the ground to a ground bus there as well, the connecters were in the base that the depthfinder had so no wires showed there either, I'm with ya on to many wires showing as I don't like that look either...For me it was a tough choice whether I wanted the transducer on the transom or on the trolling motor, ended up on the transom. I also used plastic zipties where I could to to secure the transducer wire as I had many places I could get access to the wire on the way up to the helm.

If you lived a little closer I would offer you my help, it is easier then you think to just do it no matter where you end up putting the transducer

at moment 4got what they are, 2 lcr 4x6 in new condition. What is it a guy thing? Need anything fish/gps might
have what ya need:D. Wifes chinese can "kinda drive" a bycicle. Her butt behind the wheel in a boat wow.
