Transducer mounting - hollow aluminum stern

I recently purchased a Garmin 198 C and found it necessary to mount the transducer to the bottom of the transom.

PROBLEM: The transom is constructed of multiple hollow cells and although I used sillicone rubber on the threads of the mounting screws, and I also injected extra into the hollow cavity, I can't help to consider that I will experience an intake of water into that vulnerable area.

Anybody have a suggestion for me to remount or to fill the existing holes or to use any form of mastic or putty to absolve any leakage ??

Thank You ...

..."Doc"

.

i'd leave the 'hollow' alone..

glue a piece of good mohogany/teak/white oak ( NOT RED OAK ) or pt plywood about 3 in wide x 6 in long on the outside of transom.. an mount to the wood..

use 3m 5200 glue..

if'n boat on a trailer,, back up trailer within 4 foot or so to a garage/tree/structure.. cut a wood 'scrap' piece tad long of the distance ..

glue on wood piece an chock it with 'scrap' horizonal pressure untill dry..

or drive stake in gound inlue of structure will work..

I have used a piece of acrylic like in the picture. This way if I want to change the transducer in the future the holes drilled don't go into the hull. Sealed with 5200 not only in the holes but all the way around the block.

"CRABBAIT" & "POINTER" ...

... both are excellent ideas ... and i will most likely adapt-over both of your applications ... over the Memorial Holiday this weekend. Thank You both of you for your ideas.

.............. "Doc"

.
