Hey everyone! this is my first post so deal with me here. I recently purchased a Helix 7 SI GPS to upgrade from my Lowrance Mark 4. I am fairly savvy if I do say so myself so I can handle everything else, but I can't figure out the best place to mount the new SI transducer for optimum performance. I would like to move my Lowrance to the bow for when I'm fishing so don't really want to move that transducer unless I really need to. The speed pitot is mounted on the stbd side and to be honest I don't really need it if the SI can be mounted there. I also thought about mounting it on the step, but dont know if that's best or not. Please help so i can play with my new toy!

Did you read the installation instructions?

Side scanning transducers have pretty strict location requirements. Have to be within DIM. X of keel to allow the side scan beam to clear the lower unit

Dingbat thanks for thee quick reply! Yeah I read the instructions and you're right about them being strict. Basically I have to mount it 15 inches from the prop, below but parallel to the waterline, and because it's SI it can't have anything obstructing the view. It does say that it may be possible to mount it on the step, but not on the transom behind it to avoid it popping out the water.
