Today I purchased a Hummingbird 898 side imaging and just wanted to check on here about the placement of the transducer. The instructions say 1/8" to 1/4" below the transom to the face. Does anyone out there have experience with one of these to tell me that is fairly close to the right position. I know I will probably have to fine tune after I get it in the water but just wanted to be pretty close with my screw holes.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Transducer Placement for a Hummingbird 898

The Side scan transducer has a 170 Deg view.
It needs to be low enough so BOTH sides can see UNDER the hull.
If one side is looking across the back of the transom, it will have a noisy picture, due to all the foam in the water.
Get it as low as you can but not in front of the AV Plate to avoid disturbing the inflow to the prop and causing ventilation at high speeds.
