I just got a boat and theres a depth reading on the dash and a box under the dash (lowrance). This piece is down in the bilge and there is a piece glued through the hull.
is this replacable, doesn't look repairable.
Also the piece in the hull seems very secure in there, was this piece threaded on to hold it into the hull?
The boat is a 1994 Four Winns.

Is this a thru hull or just glued to the interior of the hull? In either case, you will gave to contact the mfg of the unit and order a new ducer. Don't look repairable from here. Make sure the head unit is good before proceeding, or just buy an entire setup new,

I found a model number on the Lowrance box, it's LSM-1. The display on the dash reads but it goes from 0 to very deep. It would be nice to display accurate depth on the dash but my main concern is the 1 1/2" hole in the hull.

I'm not insulting your intelligence here with my reply. I don't know you nor your boating experience so I will keep it simple and if you know the terms I explained, just move on with the topic. Wink!

There is a "thru hull" transducer (the thing that sends and receives the "ping" from a target) that has a hole cut through the hull and the transducer is glued in. Then there is a transom (vertical plate upon which the engine is mounted) mounted version, usually mounted outside the boat on the transom but some folks (like me) epoxy the transducer inside the boat on the deck (floor) just in front of the center of the transom.

Neither kind would be easy to get out/off. Best bet is to leave it be if you can't get enough information on here to determine that yours does or doesn't work and buy another complete system.

So let's see if yours works:
Get your boat out in the water, sitting on the trailer, rear of the boat submerged, like you were ready to push it off the trailer, or tied to the dock is fine with your camera and with an umbrella over the camera and viewing screen (to keep the sun from washing out the picture).

Turn it on and when something is visible on the screen take a picture and post it here. Also, if the control knobs on the front of the monitor aren't real clear in this first picture, take another picture or two with any writing/figures on the face clearly visible. You may not have a thing to worry about.

Edit: I did a Google search for info on the LSM-1 and only one reply from iboats no less that didn't show the face of the display unit and as such was no help in answering the questions.

Thanks for your response Texasmark but not sure your suggestions relate to my question. No I do not know a lot about boats or exact terms but I thought my description was accuarate.

My boat has a small digital depth display on the instrument cluster that reads 0 and fluctuates to very deep. I have only had it out once so did not pay too much attention to actual numbers. Since my broken transducer was at home on my workbench and I assumed the reading could not be accurate.

There is a box under the dash with 'Lowrance LSM-1' printed on the side and wiring going back to the broken piece in the picture. That broken part was laying in the bottom of the boat under the front crankshaft pulleys and belt, next to my bilge pump. It was originally attached to a black circular disc that is still in the hull and I can see it from under the boat
.
Sorry if the terminology was was incorrect as I am new to boat ownership. What I was asking about was whether or not anyone knew if I could find a replacement piece to replace the broken part that I thought was called a thruhull transducer. It would be nice to have the reading on my dash but my biggest concern was how secure is the 1 1/2" round piece in the bottom of my boat that is presently keeping the water on the correct side of my hull.

the “LMS” series has been obsolete and unsupported for quite some time now. A new unit is in order.

Bot aware that anyone made a plastic thru hull. Most are brass or stainless steel. I would say it’s a shoot thru but are confused by the “can see it from the bottom” comment. Need pictures of the “hole” which brings up a different question....why did you buy a boat with a hole in the bottom? Lol

So I could try and fill it with money, isn't that what having a boat is all about.
