Transducer universal?

I have an older Hummingbird b&w fishfinder mounted on the CC. It apparently has a thru the hull transducer. If I replace the unit with a new color unit, like Lorance, Garmin, etc., do you think I could "splice" into the present transducer rather than use the transom unit they supply? Is it just a two or so wire universal type unit? Thanks

No I dont think so, the new fishfinders are alot more powerful then the old ones, it might be possible to do, but wouldnt last

There are also many different frequencies that are used, 455 khz. 200, 192, 80, 50khz chances of a match probably less than on 1 in 100.

What Boatist said. They also may have different impedances, which would make them incompatible.
