Transducer?

I'm about to pick up my first boat, if it passes inspection (1993 19' open bow Starcraft with 4.3 and alpha one). Shopping on Craig's List for skis and tubes and such I see a Lowrance GPS/Fish Finder supposedly about 10 years old that is missing the transducer. Can I buy a transducer and fix it myself or is this something to stay away from? Thanks for any advise, Dave

Depends on the model of the unit weather a xducer is even available. 10 years is a long time for electronics. There have been many, many improvments in the past 10 years.

Thanks for the reply. It looks to be a Lowrance LMS 350 I think, the picture is not clear. The guy claims it was about $1000 new and he wants $50 as is.
