Transducer's inside dripped out, almost like it melted????

I have an older Humminbird DX and the dadgum transducer's guts oozed out all over the garage floor. What is up with that??

The only thing I can think of is a internal short and it did melt.

I read somewhere once that a transducer is filled with an oil, ooze, or goop of some kind that the sensor itself is immersed/encased in.

The only thing I can think of is a internal short and it did melt.

No Short it still seems to work fine. I filled up the hole where it leaked from with clear silicon so maybe it will last a while longer??
