Decide to take my 2150 Striper out for a shake down cruise on Monterey Bay today. She fired up like the champ she is after sitting for 8 months. Went to back it off the tailer, but couldn't get reverse. Or forward for that matter. Pulled her back out, took the housing off to check linkage. Seems as though cable is frozen up as I can shift it with the cable unhooked. Throttle mechanism seems OK too. My question, do I need to replace cable? Or is there some place to lube it?
Thanks for any suggestions

Welcome to iboats.

We need to know what motor powers the boat. It could be the control, most likely the shift cable since you can shift with the cable disconnected.

It's a Volvo Penta 5.0 SX. I had the engine out and rebuilt 1 ? yr ago and new cable installed. Shifted fine. Now no movement at all. Not sure where to start.

You need a new shift cable they don't last long because they are submerged in the water . If your in the salt they really don't last .:)
