Transmisson '85 mastercraft

Another ignorant boat question...<br /><br />How can I find out what type of transmission I have? I am new to the inboard part of boats and haven't a clue.<br /><br />Thanks again and again

85 Mastercraft is probably the Merc transmission. It only has forward, neutral, and reverse. There should be a tag on the side. They do provide a gear reduction usually 1.5 or 2.0. I believe they are made by Hurst and the model numbers are 630's or 800's. That about the extent of what I can recite of the top of my head sitting here. Hope that helps.

Mastercraft 85, I'm thinking it's likely a Borg/Warner 71-C, 1:1 ratio..<br /><br />Should be a tag just forward the trans oil filler/dipstick tube, right by where the mount bolts to the transmission..
