Hi all,
Alpha 1, Gen I.

I've removed the transom assembly from my donor boat and soon will be installing it into my project boat.

Question regarding the lower 2 bolts in the transom assembly. I know that they have the caps on the that are zincs/anodes. And the bolts are aluminum. But, my boat is trailered and will not be kept in the water. Is it necessary to put the aluminum bolts back in there? I was thinking of using stainless..

Re: transom assembly bolts

I would just go ahead and order the correct bolts (aluminum or magnesium). The bolts don't have as much to do with sitting in the water as they do resisting the electric charge from the outdrive and moving water. Electrolysis is what the anodes are for. Besides, you won't be able to find bolts that are made like those. The Anode heads actually unscrew from the bolt, so it's essentially a stud on both ends.

I hear ya, at $30 for 2 bolts I'm more than a little tempted to simply create my own bolts :(

Mercruiser dealer here wanted $40. I was able to go to a local marine surplus outfit and found them for $6 per bolt. So, I lucked out.
