I am putting a new transom in my 14? tinny. I was wondering if using aluminum bolts would be a better option to use as for corrosion resistance, aluminum to aluminum contact, and less expensive than stainless. Also, there are a number of other holes which went into the old transom which I want to plug up but I do not want to use bolts with 5200 so as not to go into the new transom. Does anyone recommend just 5200 or JB Weld to seal the holes so as not to have a bolt or screw protruding into the new transom?
I am a rookie at this so any info is appreciated.

Re: Transom bolts and holes

For mounting the motor, stay with the stainless, aluminum bolts are not strong enough and will not react with the aluminum. If the extra holes are now blind holes ( covered by the new transom wood ) and not too big, you could just JB weld them.

Stainless Steel bolts, nuts and washers are your best option. Either double-nut or use Nyloc nuts to prevent them coming loose. JB Weld is O.K. to plug other holes, but a small stainless steel screw and nut with stainless fender washers inside and outside would work fine also. Good Luck!
