Transom cap no longer fits

After rebuilding my transom, my transom cap no longer fits. Looking for ideas to cap it on the cheap.

I expect the answer will be bending sheet metal to make a cap that fits.

I shaved down the thickness of my transom until it fit when I did mine.

Sorry, I did forget some details. 16ft aluminum Starcraft. It is the cap that stretches from port to starboard and goes under the motor mount.

On the 16 SS Naked Lady the transom cap was broken in 3 places, we had a new one bent at a metal shop out of aluminum then with three sets of hands and a couple rubber mallets we formed it to the curve of the transom top, drilled holes for #6 x 3/4"SS screws and installed it with 3M 4200
