transom drain hole

my boat has a drainage hole at the base of the engine well (probably not uncommom).
The first time I launched it, when I stood at the stern to lower the motor, water came into the well and I dropped the fuel connector in the water. Is it feasable to put a removable rubber bung in the hole ? Or does it need to stay open whilst travelling ahead ?

Re: transom drain hole

I found that they are needed for when the boat stops suddenly and a wave washes over the stern.
By using JB's advised method of search .. :D
