transom height

I took 1972 50hp evinrude off of a 17 foot tri hull with a 20 inch transom, and put it on a 15 foot bass boat with a 17 inch transom will this make a difference?

you will get better perfomance if you raise the engine, with a jack plate, too, much drag from the lower unit so deep. this bolts to the transom, and the motor bolts to it. mount it so the flat part above the propeller is about 1 1/2 inch above the bottom of the hull. should give you great performance.

Do you feel like the performance will be bad without the jate plate?

Well, were only talking 50hp here TD, and a jack plate cost more than the 72 motor. So the cheap way out is a 2 inch board under the motor transom mount, or whatever ya can get away with and still be secure. Inch or 2 won't make a heck of a lot of diff here IMO

ok, i wasn't going to shade tree it, but. you can take 4 pieces of aluminun 1 1/2 " angle, 2 outside and 2 inside each side of motor with a 2x 6 set on top of the transom, thur bolt it in the transom, like 2-3 bolts each side, and 2 each side thru the 2x6. that's the shade tree way. home depot and lowes have all the supplies. if 2x6 is too high, rip it down. i've done it but it ain't right.

Only 50 hp but an inch can give 2 to 3 mph a pretty good jump.1 inch probably not worth a huge investment but a little cob job to get back to the right demension
would be nice. And if he could fine tune it to the best
performance just before ventilation it could get signifigant improvement.
