Transom Holes question

Hey everybody,I have about twelve screw holes in the very far bottom of my transom on each outer side.It looks like someone at one time had some kind of fins mounted down there.Some of the holes go all the way through to the inside and some do not.They are in the bottom 3 inches of the lower end of the transom. What would be a good suggestion to fill them with so they do not leak.I thought about putting stainless screws in them with silicone on them to seal them back up.Maybe the screws would have some drag back there though and would not look the greatest either.If you have a idea let me know..I can post a pic too if you are unsure what I am saying.Oh this is a fiberglass boat if that matters..Thanks

maybe take some cotton balls soaked in fiberglass resin and fill hole with that then finish off with marine tex. you could use a tooth pick or something to push it into the holes.

Drill them out to 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2", depending on how big they are now.

Epoxy pieces of dowel in them so that they are recessed about 1/8". Then fill the recesses with gelcoat or epoxy.

Thanks to you both but a question for each of you.What are cotton balls and what are dowels? Just kidding the real questions are what is marine tex and what kind of brand of epoxy is good? Both are good ideas..Bruce

Marine-tex is a two part epoxy.

marine tex is like a really tough glue-resin for marine applications..

make sure you sand all around the holes out to an area wide enough that you want to spread your marine tec or fiberglass epoxy...

other wise it will just peel in a few years

your idea was fine..because people do mount trim tabs were you have your holes...

the screws are cheap and easy and the sealant could be the same as they use for the outboard motor bolts!!
