Re: Transom is peeling off already..
My Walker Bay boat has the same problem.
I bought a new Walker Bay Genesis 310 Console Deluxe (Hypalon) at the beginning of July, '10. The boat included a 20 HP merc and a trailer. I noticed that the patches where the transom attaches to the side tubes seemed to be under a lot of stress (from the shape of the pads). Sure enough, after using the boat 6 or 7 times, the patches started pulling off (we were just cruising in calm water). One side pulled off about 1/2 way. The other side about an inch.
Tried to return the boat. The dealer says "we don't take returns on boats, motors, trailers". They did say that they would fix it under warranty.
Took it to another Walker Bay dealer (recommended by WB). They did not seem surprised that the transom was already coming off. They didn't ask any questions like "What happened?", "What were you doing when the transom started coming off?", "Where were you running this boat?". They just looked at it and said "ok, we'll fix it".
The design of this boat is nice and it goes pretty well. However, I am worried that if something like the transom is coming off already, what is the durability of the rest of the boat going to be like. After it is repaired will the transom ever be stronger than it is now (i.e. not very). Even if they keep fixing it under the warranty, it is still a huge pain to get it fixed.
Not that I care but it might point to quality, the letters that spell out the model name on the seat cushions were about half gone after one day (the letters stick onto the cushions).
