I need some advise with the transom.

A you can see on this picture, it has been reinforced (by the previous owner, I guess):

They attached the transom to the bow side of the splash well, using two 5/8" threaded rods. The splash well was reinforced using a 4"x4" pressure treated lumber.

Why would they have done that? The transom seems solid enough, and built quite strong with a lot of bracing:

Maybe they were using an outboard exceeding the rated HP? All I know is that the previous engine was bolted to the transom:

I will be using a 45 HP outboard engine. I don't know what the max rating for this boat is, but it is certainly higher than 45HP...

So I am asking you: should I remove those threaded rods and PTW 4"x4"? Or leave them there?

I cant see the posted pictures, try again to post pictures. And give us more information about the boat, your real vague description dosnt help answer your specific question.

Hey aparis
If you are using my pic posting advice you need to modify it a bit. Do everything it says EXCEPT remove the attachment. DO NOT remove it. Leave it. All your pics are showing as Red X's You can see em but we can't. Not sure why that is but it is so just leave the attachments and it will work as advertised.

I'm just sayin...:D

OK, hopefully I was not getting any responses because my pictures were not showing. Strange since I was seeing them...

Anyway, I did like many of you do: open a PhotoBucket account.

Please let me know at least if you are seeing the pictures!

Wow, that is one weird set up. Never seen that one before!!!! What Make of boat is that??? How much work do you want to do? In reality the reason for that rig is probably because the plywood transom is rotten. If you want to restore it to it's original state it would handle that 45 hp motor with no problem but would take some effort and some cash. Lots of help on here to get you thru it.

I'm just sayin...:D

Thanks for your help WoodonGlass! I can't believe that I made ~20 posts before someone finally told me my pictures were not showing.

It is a 17.5 feet "Espadon".

From what I learned, a company started by ex-Starcraft employees, that closed down early '90.

I did check the transom and some areas are indeed rotten (mainly the bottom) because of through-hull fittings that probably leaked. I was planning on changing the transom next year anyway.

Well if it were mine I would restore it the right way. Remove the splashwell, the transom knee braces and rip out all of the old wood. Fabricate a new wood transom from ext. grade plywood coated with epoxy and 1708 biax cloth all around.

I'm just sayin...:D

Closing this one and linking to your other thread for simplicity's sake.
