Does anybody know if you can take a transom mount trolling motor and make it work on the bow of a 17ft Bowrider?

Yes -- but!!! Transom mount motors generally use a much shorter shaft than a bow mount so it is very likely you would need to change that. Next, a transom mount motor pushes the boat where a bow mount pulls the boat. While the prop is in the same orientation, the tiller handle would be pointing forward mounted on the bow. The head must therefore be rotated 180 degrees so the handle points into the boat. That's easily done. Changing the shaft is another story as the internal wiring would need to be lengthened. To mount the motor you would likely need to use a pontoon mount that was then mounted to a quick release plate.

Thanks that helps. I saw the pontoon mount but how would it secure to the quick release?

By the way I forgot to mention I just bought a 40# basspro 36" shaft that I also use on my Jon Boat. Could they easily be interchanged?
