Re: transom mount

That's a tough question given the view. Raise the motor and have someone lift and release it. See if there is any give/take on the transom. You could drill some test holes around the transom to test for sawdust or rot and then fill them. If all seems solid, pour the epoxy in and let it settle and it could help. But if there is any weakness noted, chances are the transom needs to be rebuilt which probably means stringers as well.

Re: transom mount

Something is definitely wrong...
Better pics from further away and with better lighting would help...
What "idonthavaname" mentioned is also something to check...raise the motor and bounce it...if there is any flex, the sad news is the transom will need some attention...and most likely the rest of the sub structure as well...
Core samples are the best way to determine condition.
Please, post up the year and make of the boat, as that might help us in making a proper repair suggestion.
Unfortunately, if there is need of replacement, you won't get too many guys on here that would recommend a "Band-Aid" repair like adding plates...
Best of luck and Boat safely!

Re: transom mount

Well then it does flex. A good transom never flexes. The only question is to what degree is the transom compromised. You should most definitely drill some exploratory holes on the inside of the transom down low around the drain tube about 1" deep into the transom and see what the drill shavings look like. If they are Dark and Damp then you have a problem and the transom needs to be replaced. How dangerous is it and should it be done immediately is unknown. If it were me, I would not chance it but I know for a fact others have. How much FLEX are you actually seeing? If its less than 1/4" and the boat does not see heavy wakes/waves then you might get a bit more use out of it. If not then I'd seriously consider an immediate re-build.

Re: transom mount

My 21 with twin/85s doesn't flex a drop.
To make the vacation.
A transom saver or a piece of alum or stainless plate on BOTH sides of the transom.
