Transom outboard bolt patterns the same?

I have a quick question that I know you guys will be able to answer. <br /><br />I am removing a 2003 Merc 40 2 stroke from the back of a '04 Alumacraft Lunker (16.5)ft.<br /><br />I am replacing the outboard with a new '04 Nissan 50 TLDI. <br /><br />Is the bolt pattern through the transom going to be the same for my Nissan as it was for the Merc? Are all outboard bolt patterns the same? or am I going to have to fill the original holes and drill new ones?

all are the same since mid sixties, regardless of make.<br /><br />m ikey

z-man, holes are generic. enjoy your alumacraft, my wife and i just purchased the navigator 175 cs with an o4 90 hpmerc. what a boat and the ride is smooth.<br />fishins great in ny upstate.
