The boat in question is the boat in my signature, 1997 Wellcraft Excel 23 FISH.

When I drilled the holes in the dransom for the fishfinder mounting hardware this spring, water dribbled out.

The transom is very strong, I can hang my big *** off the motor and it does not move at all.

But I am worried about the water.

I do not want to do a complete rebuild, due to cost and labor (my labor).

No flex cracks, and the top of the transom (from about the middle up actually) didn't dribble.

When I pull the boat out, I want to treat the transom with CPES. Does this sound like a good idea? Can anyone give me pointers as far as drying out the wood as much as I can (no problem drilling more holes to get water out, I'll fill and reseal them)? And pointers on applying the CPES? Want to get this right because I want to have this boat for a long time.

Thanks.

Think your right about doing some more test holes, usually where there's water there's more.
Hope your lucky but don't count on it

If rot has not set in you may be OK. If it has you need to kill the rot. It is a fungus and will only spread.

Go to the red search at the top of the page and enter "antifreeze" as a search arguement. The post contains an article about how automotive antfreeze will kill rot. The only other way to get rid of rot is to remove & repace the wood.

I doubt that the wood will dry out by drilling holes but you can try.

I'll leave the CPES to someone who has used it.
