Transom Question

So I was in the process of installing my fish finder transducer and had to back out the screws to re-position when I noticed water streaming from one of the holes. Is this bad? I drilled a few holes in the surrounding area and water came out of one hole within a 3 inch radius, outside of 3 inches no water. The transom sounds solid (tapped with hammer), but this has me concerned! Anyone ever experience this????

Re: Transom Question

I'm no expert at that but I can tell you I had that same problem when I replaced my swim ladder. I guess when installed at the fact. they didn't seal the screw holes very well. I let it sit and watched it ( the holes ) and when the water finally stopped dripping out I gave it another 2 weeks of the Fl. sun and then installed the new swim ladder and sealed the hec out of the holes and around the parts that came in contact with the hull. No water will get back in there again. of coarse my 2302 is on a trailer in the back yard of my house so it wasn't bad except for not using the boat for about 3 months, that's about how long of an ordeal it took. Maybe some one w/ better experience will chime in, if not go to a boat repair forum. hope that's of some input.

Re: Transom Question

Thanks...This does appear to be a typical issue, but a serious one none the less. I have selected a marina where I plan to slip the boat for the season. The owner told me he can check for moisture in the transom but so long as there is no soft spots I should be OK for now. I think the water got in through some transducer bracket and wire clamp screws that were not properly sealed. I've drill'd some additional holes and believe I have the ingress points. We'll see!

Re: Transom Question

How important is it to replace the cracked trim on the transom edge. I plan on sealing with clear RTV, but I'm not sure if I should remove and replace the old/brittle trim. I'm thinking about removing the trim, making a fiberglass mold off the transom's edge and making composite trim pieces I can bond on.

Re: Transom Question

Good News!!!! The transom was meter tested and found to be good. Meter indicate some water near a few cable tie-down screws as I speculated.
