Re: transom questions

If you have enough room to get the new transom into position without taking the top off then you can do it as is. I cant tell from the photo if this is you case but that will be the deciding factor.

Re: transom questions

i would have to guess yes.

taking it out can be a real pita......
a lot of guys cut the top cap off at the back ....and just fair it back in place than re gell.

but you can crawl in there and remove it section by section....then re install it.....but it is a real fight.....so its your call on how much aggravation you want to endure.

can you give us more close ups of the stringers....the are suspect at this point.

Re: transom questions

IT kinda looks like a gut job. How are the stringers?

Re: transom questions

If it's anything like my Four Winns I would bet the stringers are trash.... They did a very poor job of glassing the stringers....lots of voids and places to trap water.....

Re: transom questions

Since it looks to me like the the interior is already out of this boat, it would not be a particularly big job to pop the cap and that would make your transom replacement project SOOOOO much easier.

What Year is this 4 winns ??

Yes the stringers look like there trashed ( black moldy looking ).

Lower end of the trans where we can See looks shot ( trans rebuild ).

Dont be shy m8..tell us what you have and explore please ( we have a hard time with the " looks or I think " syndrom where you want to hear something that fits your ear..

Think of Us like your Lawyer ( well not totally ;) ) .. but you Must disclose EVERYTHING for us to help you in your situation .. Dont hold back :) ..

Re: transom questions

thank you the reply,,,,,,well when i bought the boat it was outside with a lil snow in it,, the large well ahead of the transom was the fuel tank,,when i removed that there was alot of gunk like mud and trash etc,,i think alot of the black was from the floor in the very back it stained the stringers,,,,,,but they were well glassed and seem solid,,it is definitley rot in the floor about 30 inches from the back,,,,,the transom is definitley rotten on the bottom below the lower motor mount holes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,almost looks like i will have to pop the top,,,,,,,,,,but dont know how heavy it is,,,,how easily it would lift cause of the foam up in there,,,,,the kick panels under the dash looked glassed in both sides,,,,,looks like if i separted the top it would be faily easy,,,,,,i just dont know anything about splittin the boat apart and how dificult

Re: transom questions

Once you get at, it your confidence in doing it will improve.

It needs to come apart to do the job right.
