I am in need of a few word of advice i have a johnson 200 hp motor on this 90 model 20ft stratus the transit is bowed out about a 1/4 of a inch and the top part is 3/4 of the way rotten it gets better as it goes down to the bottom. The bottom half is still in tact though im sure its only a matter of time. How much time is my main worry i have tared and silicone the back side so that no water will penitrate the little gap inbetween the transit. Is this a major repair that could cost more than the boat itself? just looking for words of advice...

Major repair YES, more the the boat is worth, not in my opinion it's not. But if you're planning on having it done by the next tournament you won't make it... Post some pictures and lets see how bad the damage is.

200 Ponies is a bunch of stress on a rotten transom....with just the damage you've mentioned I wouldn't run it until it's repaired.

I believe this is a picture of a transom of a 1990 Statos Bass Boat.

They do NOT lend themselves to replacing the transom very easily. A LOT of people incorporate the NidaBond or SeaCast pourable synthetic materal to do the job. This can be accomplished by cutting a slot in the transom and using an Electric Chainsaw, Yes I said ChainSaw, to cut out the old rotted wood and then pour in the material to form the new transom. It is strong as heck and relative easy to do. Kinda Pricey $$$$$ though. Search the forum for NidaBond or Seacast Transom repair and you will find lots of examples. If you opt for the standard Wood and Fiberglass method you would need to Pop the top Cap of the boat to get to it. NOT an easy thing and LOTS of work and time and effort.

Well i went to take pictures of my transom and then it hit me i have done put tar and silicone on the back side so the picture woulnt tell the story. Judging from th picture above my transom starts it bow about a 3/4 inch from one side of the jack plate to bout a 3/4 inch to the other side and protrudes out about a 1/4 of a inch. With the knock test it get solid about 5 to 6 inches down. What kinda price am i looking at and with being green to boat in general is this a project that i can do with out wanting to take a chainsaw to the whole thing? Im sure if i take it to a shop to have it done i will not get the better end of the deal. May b i can make it though this fishing season taking it easy. I bought this boat this winter because the guy was in need of some money i gave 2000 for it and while it is a big deal this is the only thing it is lacking from being a great boat.
