:( I have a 73 Sears Runabout 14' fiberglass, I was curious if anyone has any ideas of how to make it stronger to put a larger motor on boat. Thanks

Re: Transom Reinforcement

i just got my boat back from the repair shop after a cracked transom "incident" and they took out the old transom, put in a new one about 1 inch thicker and added some more bracing from the transom to the floor. and glassed everything together. This was only done to strenghten the transom because of a 10" setback. The motor is at the rated capacity of the boat though. I know around here you have to abide by the coast guard plate on the boat as far as horsepower or they will not let you on certain lakes. Also, if your insurance company finds out that you were over the recommended hp, they will not pay for anything that happens, so be careful and make sure it's worth it before you go over that hp limit. good luck,

Steve
