Ok I removed the engine block today, now just have to remove the shield then I can start to get dirty.

Here's a photo of the transom

The bulk of the wood is a double piece about the width of the bildge well. The lower right corner is severly rotted.

The middle of the transom as mentioned appears to be the beefiest with each side only having a single layer. The wood here is in good shape and does not appear to be a continuos piece with the middle.

How would you go about the repairs? I'm thinking of ripping out the middle section.

Re: Transom Repair - Help

Well I think you should do the whole transom. It couldn’t be any easier then it is now, and you would hate to have a problem after doing any work at this point.

So I would take everything mounted on the transom off. And then proceed to cut the inner skin off along with the wood. There are many threads on doing complete transoms.
