Here are some pics of my ongoing transom repair. When I took the aluminum cap off I drilled two 1" test holes with a spade bit to see if there was rot in the wood. It turns out only the top 1/4" was water damaged. The pics show the wooden plug and 3M 5200 used to fill the holes. I ground down about 3/8" with a carbide burr on a roto-zip to solid wood. Today I epoxied the starboard delaminated fiberglass. The port side is yet to be done, tomorrow I can take the clamps off and use them on the port side. When the skin is relaminated I plan on laying up the ground out channel with fiberglass to keep moisture out. The aluminum cap offers no water resistance, so I might as well seal up the transom top.
