I have a 1978 Sea Nympth 17ft aluminum boat with a 85hp Johnyrude. This boat has been great for many years. The transom is starting to get a little soft and I would like to replace it. I have contacted the local marina and they said that they would not perform such a job. I know I have the skill to do so but I do not have the time with work, family, fishing, and day to day chores. Does anybody have any suggestions for whom to have complete this repair. I'm located in southern Indiana. Thanks.

Re: Transom replacement

Just my opinion....... Do it yourself.

We are talking about a weekend project at most.

Remove motor
remove rivets and bolts
extract old transom wood
Use 3/4" plywood (probably 2 layers will suffice)
Cut wood to match old transom
Seal with fiberglass resin all sides and edges
Insert new wood, rivets and bolts.....
Install outboard
Go Fishing!!
