 I/O Transom Rot.

At least it is not an OB.

Thanks Oops for the info and here is the post you requested.

I will show Transom Rot pics.
I plan to finish the season just fishing from the boat. No Tubiong or pulling.
I plan to be easy on the throttle as well.

Then my winter project will be to replace my transom with marine ply glassed in.

I learned this by spending a couple day reading all the GREAT posted info on this repair including Seacast. I choose the Ply because my transom has no slot. The transom is glassed in from the inside of the boat.

Everything else on the boat is in PERFECT CONDITION. I am a mechanic by trade and feel all the required experience needed I can pull off (Thanks TO iboats.com).

Even though there is NO CRACKS or LEAKS in the boat and outer layer fine.... I will install 4 each crossed turnbuckles attached to the engine and bolted to the stringers for safety(can't do this with OB. This will help with loading the boat and protect against the engine moving forward or back.

Thanks Oops for your input and I would be interested in your opinion on this temp bracing..

Hope I am doing this right! IIt looks like I need to change the Pic size in Photobucket...Sorry!

yuppers......its bad

you have two ways of getting in there after the motor is out......cut the back cap out or just pull the whole cap......( i recomend pulling the whole cap)

start reading about wood. what kind you want to use....and buy it now so it can start drying....you have time, so i would suggest pressure treated wood on that one. you can also use exterior grade ply if you dont want to go pt.

read the hull ext thread for detailed pics of bulding a new transom.....

and the thread called confused on matts cloth......there is a basic fiberglass primmer there......i bumped it up because of another pm

it will take approx 50 hrs.....and 300 bucks if you pull the motor and drive.

were all here to give you a hand, so if you ever feel "stuck" dont worry.
hepl is just a quick answer away

cheers

What do you think of the temp fix with the supports from engine to stringers ( turnbuckles) just to go fishing?

More outer pics too Below....

Today id Friday...."YES!;)

Boy I like this forum , All you have to do is read..read...read and there is nothing you can't find...

THANKS Ooops for the Profesional (and honest) help!

Gonna install the stern

Then I am gonna do a Transom Test that I found last night after reading till 3AM. he he:rolleyes: (Must be a test of a true wantabe, wanta do and wanta boat)

As I said up top I installed the stern....GEEESH what a hassle with the bellows and all.
Made some cool tools though ....

I held on to a tree tried standing on the stern and NO MOVEMENT UP AND DOWN ON THE STERN DRIVE TO SEE IF I CAN MOVE THE TRANSOM ANY!!!

Guess what happened?....Nothing...No Movement ...I really tried up , down , left , right. Can't get it to budge.

I then took a drill and finished test drilling the inside transom wood and the top is really rotted (I can put a screwdriver right through to the glass)

But when I get lower where most of the mounting is, It is solid!

I would think that the lower would be worse right:confused:..

(Maybe it has to do with where the air got to it????

I plan to install the turnbuckles just for late season fising time (90 Degrees here still). UNLESS YOU STILL ADVISE OTHERWISE. "WILLING TO LISTEN"
